Lieutenant Colonel Matthew W. Peterson a lifelong resident of East Feliciana Parish. A graduate of Clinton High School furthering his education at Louisiana State University obtaining his B.S.. LTC Peterson serves as the Airport Director of the Feliciana Airpark (LA3).


Holding his Private Pilot’s License always looking to further his knowledge in aviation he is currently in the process of obtaining his Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) certification. Upon retirement, the LTC plans to provide lessons to the next generation of aviators.


As a member of the 244th chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), LTC Peterson has flown over twenty-five Young Eagles, continuing as a mentor for the Young Eagles as often as time allows. Providing over one-hundred discovery flight with optimistic future aviators. He will continue working with all ages to help encourage others to find a passion for aviation as the LTC has himself.


LTC Peterson began his military career as a private in 1987 attending Basic Training at Ft Dix, New Jersey. The LTC has been deployed five times, three stateside and twice to South West Asia where, on his last deployment, he was the Officer in Charge of an eight-hundred person multinational task force responsible for the importation and distribution of all ammunition into South West Asia for a year. 


After his second overseas deployment, LTC Peterson took command of the Fighting 1192nd DDSB, headquartered in New Orleans, LA where, with the help of his staff and Command Sergeant Major, they transformed one of the lowest ranking Battalions in the Deployment Support Command into one of the most improved with soldier deployed around the world.


In his last assignment, LTC Peterson was the Chief of Readiness at the 377th Theater Support Command, responsible for the battle-readiness of 35,000 soldiers, the largest single command in the entire US Military. 


LTC Peterson has been selected by the General Officer review board for promotion to 06 (Full Bird) and Brigade Command, currently awaiting assignment within the US Army Reserve the LCT. 


If the LTC isn't out at Feliciana Airpark, you will find him at his “day job” as an Assistant Operator for ExxonMobil at their Baton Rouge facility. LTC Peterson is also a student of the US Army War College, class of 2021.

 

He lives in Ethel, LA with his wife April, of 30 years and their two sons and spends his “spare time” as an Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 60 in Clinton, LA.
